Tonya Coutts Wirth is a Registered Acupuncturist (R. Ac.), Doctor of Acupuncture (Dr. Ac) and has completed the Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine program (Dip TCM). She has been in full time practice since completion of her program with College and Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CITCM) in 2010. She is a member in good standing with the College of Acupuncturists of Alberta (CAA) and holds herself to account in the maintenance of a practice with integrity beyond the standards set by the province’s regulatory body. She is a member in good standing and former board member of the Alberta Association of Acupuncturists and Traditional Chinese Medical Doctors (AAATCMD). Dr. Tonya has always believed the best way to support her patients is the growth of her profession. She supports the association in its role in furthering the standards of practice while bringing the benefits of Acupuncture and the other modalities of Traditional Chinese Medicine to the forefront of modern health care. Her areas of expertise include:  Integrating body, mind and soul for health and wellbeing  Restoring a sense of calm and connecting patients to themselves and their needs  Burnout prevention and recovery  Regulation of sleep and management of mental and emotional health  Digestive health, nutrition and dietetics  Promotion of physiological processes to regulate emotions and manage pain  Empowering patients, helping them understand the steps they can take towards wellness

After more than a decade in practice and thousands of patient visits Dr. Tonya has remained steadfast in furthering her knowledge and updating skills in an effort to best support her patients. Since graduating her main program she has further enhanced and updated her skills through professional continuing education. This included NADA protocol, Auricular Therapy with Li Chun Huang, Pediatrics with Raven Lang, Obstetrics with Debra Betts, TUNG system with Robert Chu and Sports Medicine with Matt Callison to name a few. It became crystal clear to her that acupuncture, nutrition and lifestyle factors have a positive effect on mental and emotional health. This has guided her learning. Incorporating teachings from both Western and Eastern perspectives, the treatments she gives are governed by years of experience, learning, research, patient needs and comfort levels. The years through the pandemic have strengthened Dr. Tonya’s resolve in supporting patients in this way. Dr. Tonya has taken a deep dive into how to best support patients after years of adversity learning from Yvonne Farrell and many others. Using the full spectrum of tools available through Traditional Chinese Medicine as well as modern insights in nutrition, supplementation and mental health she believes the impacts she can make in a patients overall health is vast. Another aspect of her practice worth mentioning is a purposeful resolve to removing barriers to care and increasing sensitivity to the challenges faced by others while raising awareness of inclusivity. Implementing strategies from a Trauma Informed Care perspective and tailoring treatments to patient needs has become fore front in recent years. While many of these aspects were already a part of the patient experience, Dr. Tonya continues to learn, refine and raise awareness within her practice as a whole. Benefits of Her Services:  Patients reach their highest potential and realize wellness goals.  Patients receive care in a structured, supportive environment and are given space to focus on themselves.  Acupuncture treatment helps patients build resilience within and enables spiritual and emotional growth.  Receiving routine wellness treatments gives patients the opportunity to grow and release outdated patterns of stagnation.  Patients enjoy a reduction in pain, digestive upsets, migraine headaches and many other stress related issues in an environment conducive to healing.  Patients have the option to use acupuncture with Dr. Tonya as a relaxing, passive treatment modality  Patients realize their whole sense of wellbeing by harnessing their power to heal.
